Mark K. Shimoda, DDS
Dr. Shimoda earned his DDS degree from the Temple University School of Dentistry in 1975. He then earned his Certificate in Periodontics from Temple University, School of Graduate Periodontics in 1977. He then accepted a full-time teaching position at the University of Colorado, School of Dentistry, Division of Periodontics. He was a full-time Assistant Professor, Division of Periodontics until 1982, at which time he was full-time in private practice, although he taught continuing education classes for the dental school. Dr. Shimoda has been an active member and office in the Rocky Mountain Society of Periodontists and the Colorado Society of Dental Anesthesiology. He has been a long time member of the Columbine Periodontal Study Club, Metropolitan Denver Dental Society, Colorado Dental Association, the American Dental Association of the American Academy of Periodontology. Dr. Shimoda believes strongly in educating patients as to the nature of their dental and periodontal problems, their treatment options and then helping patients arrive at the treatment that best suits them. Individuals can make the best treatment choices for themselves once they understand the nature of the disease process.
Janie L. Boyesen, DDS, DMSc
Dr. Boyesen graduated from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in 2003 with a DDS degree. She completed her Periodontology Certificate and Doctor of Medical Sciences (DMSc) degree at Harvard University of Dental Medicine in 2007. Along with clinical training in all aspects of Periodontolgy, Dr. Boyesen has conducted basic science research in Oral Immunology for her doctoral thesis. She was nominated as one of the four basic science finalists in the Balint Orban Memorial Competition at the 2007 annual American Academy of Periodontology meeting. She has published several peer-reviewed papers and abstracts on both basic science and clinical applications of periodontics. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. Boyesen is an active member of several regional and national professional organizations, including the Rocky Mountain Society of Periodontists, the American Academy of Periodontology and the Colorado Dental Association. Her volunteer efforts include the Colorado Mission of Mercy (COMOM) and the Rocky Mountain Dental Convention (RMDC).
Kathy Schwarz, RDH
Kathy graduated in 1976 from William Rainey Harper College with an Associate degree in Dental Hygiene, after attaining a BA degree in Art and Secondary Education in the Chicago area where she grew up. Kathy moved to Denver after graduation, working in several general dental practices for 20 years before working with Dr. Shimoda, since 1996. Kathy has been very active with the Colorado Dental Hygienists’ Association, serving in many positions on their board, as well as volunteering time to community causes. Kathy enjoys traveling with her husband. She has interests in needlecrafts, stained glass, reading and hiking in her leisure time.
Lori Kim, RDH
Originally from California, Lori has lived in Colorado since 1983. She first started with Dr. Shimoda in spring of 1988, working full-time for 5 years before going back to school for her MS in Physical Therapy. She returned to practice part0time in 2000. She enjoys traveling with her husband. She likes to hike and enjoys the outdoors.
Raquel Teran, Office Manager
Raquel has been with the practice since 2004. She is the only Colorado native in our office! She has been married since 2001 and is the proud mother of three beautiful children (and 2 dogs). Raquel really enjoys working with our wonderful patients and the great staff. She loves to laugh, read and spend time her husband and children.
